BREAKING NEWS FROM SLEEPY HOLLOW: The Hollow News has been busy again, and the presses are barely keeping up.

Two new issues of the town’s most dependable, and occasionally questionable, newspaper have arrived. The Hollow News: Issue No. 2 was published on September 21, 2026, followed by Issue No. 3 on September 23. That makes three issues in the series so far, which is a respectable run for a newspaper serving a town where a citywide burn ban is considered necessary local policy.

Both new books continue the oddball traditions of Granny’s Sleepy Hollow Rooster: humorous illustrated stories, coloring pages, puzzles, fake advertisements, classifieds, community notices, and enough small-town nonsense to keep readers turning pages.

As THE Rooster likes to say:

“If it happens in the Hollow, you’ll hear it from THE Town Crower!”

Issue No. 2: A burn ban, a car hunt, and a very unusual measuring system

In Granny’s Sleepy Hollow Rooster: The Hollow News. Issue No. 2, Mayor Maynot makes an announcement that feels both responsible and completely inevitable:

Sleepy Hollow is under a citywide burn ban.

This may seem like a sensible civic precaution in any other town. In Sleepy Hollow, where things have a suspicious habit of catching fire, it is practically front-page material.

That is only the beginning of Issue No. 2. The new edition also reports on:

  • Granny’s attempt to buy a new automobile, and the discovery that purchasing one is not as simple as pointing at it and saying, “That one looks comfortable.”
  • A Fellon who opens a business in Sleepy Hollow, because apparently the town’s business directory had room for one more surprise.
  • Reporter Ray Dient’s meeting with a man who does not need a measuring tape because he uses his own body instead.

We will leave the details of that last story to Ray Dient and THE Rooster. A newspaper must preserve a little mystery, especially when the tailor’s measuring method is also the measuring instrument.

Issue No. 2 is a 24-page, 8.5-by-11-inch paperback priced at $9.99. It is designed as a humorous read-color-and-activity book for kids and adults, making it equally suitable for a quiet afternoon, a family table, or the moment when somebody says, “I need something to do that does not involve a screen.”

Issue No. 3: Crime-free, personal, and stubbornly determined

Then comes Granny’s Sleepy Hollow Rooster: The Hollow News. Issue No. 3, where the newsroom faces an even more unusual development:

Sleepy Hollow remains crime free.

A peaceful town is good news, of course. It is also a bit of a problem for reporters who need something to put above the fold. Fortunately, the residents of Sleepy Hollow continue to provide plenty of material.

Issue No. 3 includes stories about:

  • A town that continues to operate without crime, leaving the local authorities with more time for standing around looking official.
  • Two Hollow News reporters who reveal a little more about themselves than anyone expected.
  • One resident who proves that once his mind is made up, changing it may be harder than moving a brick wall.

That last story may be the most realistic report in the entire series. Every town has someone who has already made up their mind, reached a conclusion, and filed the paperwork, whether or not anyone asked.

Like Issue No. 2, the third issue contains 24 pages, measures 8.5 by 11 inches, and is available as a $9.99 paperback. It is the newest edition in a series that now officially includes three books.

What readers find inside each issue

The Hollow News is not just a collection of short stories. It is built to feel like a complete newspaper from a fictional town. One where the ads are strange, the classifieds are suspiciously specific, and the community bulletin board probably deserves its own reporter.

Each issue includes:

  • Four illustrated Hollow News stories
  • Four full-page coloring scenes
  • Fake advertisements from Sleepy Hollow businesses
  • The Hollow Classifieds
  • A community bulletin board
  • A maze
  • A word search
  • An unscramble game
  • A picture puzzle or visual activity
  • A Junior Hollow Reporter page where readers can write their own news story
  • Answer pages

The format gives readers several ways to enjoy the books. They can read the stories straight through, color the scenes, solve the puzzles, investigate the advertisements, or become Junior Hollow Reporters and decide what deserves front-page attention.

Perhaps Granny has bought an automobile. Perhaps Mayor Maynot has issued another town ordinance. Perhaps someone has opened a business that nobody quite understands yet.

The newsroom needs people with strong opinions and reasonably legible handwriting.

Start at the beginning, or jump straight into the latest edition

The Hollow News is now a three-issue series, collected on its own Amazon series page.

Readers who want to begin at the start can pick up Issue No. 1. The first edition introduces the newspaper, its reporting team, and several early stories from Sleepy Hollow, including Hopes & Dreams leaving town, a meteorite-related incident, the return of the Hog Calling Contest, and Ray Dient’s interview with the Lie Master.

Issue No. 1 also establishes the full newspaper-style format: stories, coloring scenes, local advertisements, classifieds, puzzles, community announcements, and the Junior Hollow Reporter activity.

New readers can begin there and follow the town’s reporting in order. Or they can pick up Issue No. 2 or No. 3 independently. Each issue works as its own humorous activity book, so there is no need to pass a newsroom entrance exam before opening one.

A newspaper with family roots

The Hollow News is part of the wider Sleepy Hollow world created by Duane H. Cave, inspired by his hometown of St. Helens, Oregon, and by the stories and imagination of his father, Hardy Cave, who wrote under the pen name Robert Yance Newton.

Sleepy Hollow began with Hardy’s small tabletop publication, Granny’s Sleepy Hollow Rooster. Duane has carried those roots forward while expanding the idea into a living fictional town filled with memorable residents, unusual businesses, family stories, poems, coloring adventures, and more than a few people who should probably explain themselves to the mayor.

The wider catalog includes the Sleepy Hollow Storybook Coloring Series, the Robert Yance Newton’s Fireside Collection, and companion titles that introduce readers to the people and history behind the town.

The latest word from THE Town Crower

With Issue No. 2 and Issue No. 3 now in print, The Hollow News has officially become a three-issue newspaper series, and Sleepy Hollow still has plenty to report.

There are fires to prevent, cars to shop for, businesses to explain, reporters to keep an eye on, and residents whose minds may never be changed again.

In other words, the newsroom is safe for now.

Pick up an issue, sharpen your pencils, and see what is happening in the Hollow.
